Driving instructions below:
From San José take the main highway Limon (Route 32). You will have to get instructions from your hotel or car rental in San Jose on how to get to this road. Stay on this road until arriving to Limon. The trip from San Jose to Limon takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
Enjoy the beautiful views, especially in the first 45 minutes of the trip while passing through the Braulio Carrillo National Park.
There are plenty of restaurants and gas stations along the way once beyond the park.
Approaching Limón, about 500 yards after you pass the cemetery there is an intersection at a stop light with signs indicating to take a right turn for Cahuita and Sixaola. Take this right turn at the light onto Route 36.
Continue along this road with beautiful beach views for about 1 hour. You will cross several bridges, one gas station at Penshurst (fill up here), pass the entrances to Cahuita and Puerto Vargas.
You will arrive at a sharp right turn off in Hone Creek with signs indicating Bribri to right and Puerto Viejo straight; continue straight at this intersection, following sign to Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo.
10 minutes later you will arrive at coastal village of Puerto Viejo. Go through town, staying on the paved road, towards Manzanillo. You will see the sign AGUAS CLARAS on your left at 4.5 km. beyond Puerto Viejo in the vicinity of Playa Chiquita, 500m beyond the Hotel Villas del Caribe. |
